"This intermediate course is crafted to extend the foundational presentation skills acquired in the initial workshop, enhancing the ability of Translational Medicine PhD students to communicate their research effectively. This workshop is integral to the series of compulsory courses within the PhD program and focuses on further development of presentation capabilities with an emphasis on clearer, more impactful communication.
Course Activities Include: Progressive Scientific Presentation: Students will have the opportunity to present the evolving results of their research within a 10-minute window, focusing on enhancing the clarity and impact of their delivery. Moderated Discussion: Following each presentation, a 5-minute session led by course leaders and supervisors will involve pointed questions designed to probe deeper into the scientific content and presentation rationale. Collaborative Discussion Time: This segment allows for a 5-minute open discussion where peers can ask detailed questions, fostering a deeper understanding and enhancing the interactive learning process. Targeted Feedback: Feedback from course leaders will focus on improving specific aspects of each student’s presentation techniques, such as the effectiveness of visuals, speech clarity, and audience engagement. Supervisory Guidance: Supervisors will provide insights with a focus on refining students’ abilities to connect their research with broader academic and practical implications. Peer Feedback: Encouraging peer-to-peer feedback to facilitate a supportive learning environment where students can identify strengths and areas for improvement in each other’s presentation styles. Continued Development: The workshop concludes with a structured discussion to reflect on the feedback received and plan further improvements. The second session is designed to reinforce and build upon the skills developed in the first, with an increased focus on handling complex questions and integrating critical feedback into presentation styles."
