Twenty compounds were isolated from eleven plant species belonging to two taxonomic groups: the Apiaceae family and the genus Salvia. The isolated compounds were classified as caffeoylquinic acids (CQAs) (4–7, 9, 10), caffeoyldaucic acids (CDAs) (11–13), caffeoyl-dihydroxyphenyllactic acids (CDHPLA) (14–19, 21), and flavonoid-malonyl-glucosides (FMGls) (1–3, 8). Determining optimal tissues and treatment conditions allowed the isolation of these compounds. Among them, ten compounds were identified as previously undescribed natural compounds, including six CQAs (4–7, 9, 10), a CDA (12), a FMGl (8), a CDHPLA (17), and a related derivative (19). The structures of the isolated compounds were characterized through HPLC-UV-Orbitrap-HR-MS/MS and NMR analyses. All the isolated compounds showed promising DPPH inhibition potential with IC50 values of 7–27 μM, except compound 3, which showed an IC50 value of 233 μM. CQAs (4, 9) and FMGl (3) showed non-selective cytostatic effects. The conversion products (18, 19, 21) showed better cytostatic activity as compared to CDPLAs (14–17).
